Our statement of philosophy reflects the principles of the national law, the Early Years learning frameworks (VEYLDS and EYLF) and the National Quality Standards (NQS). This document outlines the actions and beliefs that underpin all decisions, policies and daily practices of the educators and co-educators at East Ivanhoe Preschool. It reflects a shared understanding of the role of this service in relation to children, families and the wider community. At East Ivanhoe Kindergarten we are committed to providing children with the best possible start to their educational journey. We see the early years as a pivotal time in children’s lives, a time that is precious and integral to ensure a solid foundation for children’s future learning and sense of self. In our work with children we acknowledge that children have a right to learn and develop in an environment that is; • Is safe and nurturing and fosters a feeling of community and belonging • A place where children are allowed time with caring and accepting adults, to follow their own interests. To work with educators who value children’s ideas and have high expectations of all children. • For children to have opportunities to become flexible learners, thinkers, problem-solvers and risk-takers. • That all children are provided with an environment that celebrates diversity and embraces all families equally. A program that celebrates our multicultural society and the richness it brings. A learning program that actively acknowledges and values the traditional owners of the land and strives to share and celebrate indigenous culture throughout the program • We support the children to appreciate and respect the complexity, fragility and beauty of our natural environment through sustainable practices and spending time enjoying the outdoors and being immersed nature. Our intentional teaching ensures that children get hands on opportunities to understand the importance of conserving our natural environment through sustainable practices. • As educators we see our own educational journey as ongoing and are committed to our own professional development ensuring that we stay up to date with new research and commitment to improving our knowledge and skills to enable us to provide the best possible outcomes to all children. • We value and respect each staff member’s individuality, experience, skills and knowledge. • We work in partnership with families and acknowledge the pivotal role parents play in our programs.
